I just saw a Tom Kean ad that made reference to “Menendez’s plan to give your Social Security benefits to illegal aliens".

That is the most awesome plan ever.

Via David Boaz, I see that a student had a Dave Barry quote taken down from his office door by his department’s chair on the grounds that it was “patently offensive". The horrifying quote?

“As Americans we must always remember that we all have a common enemy, an enemy that is dangerous, powerful, and relentless. I refer, of course, to the federal government.”

Here’s the funny part: I really have no idea whether the department chair is a left-wing or a right-wing nutjob.

In Seattle, the lefties consider it racist to favor individualism over collectivism. But righties nationwide abhor a “blame America first” attitude, at least while Republicans run the government.

You really can’t tell them apart sometimes.

Flash back to October of 1991. Mariah Carey’s Emotions is the #1 song in the country. Late night TV is all jokes about pubic hair on Coke cans and Long Dong Silver, because the Democratic Senate is considering the confirmation of Clarence Thomas. Hey, how did that confirmation vote ever turn out?

What makes you think you have anything in common with the leaders of the Democratic Party?

If *they* (proper usage) take the Senate, they’ll have the power to block Bush’s ultra-right-wing nominee to replace Stevens. But *they* won’t. And you’ll be pissed off, and disappointed, and the lesson you’ll take from it is, “I need to vote harder for Democrats”.
