Vinay

From Wiki Gonzalez

Vinay, the always-smiling twenty-something Indian-American (as opposed to American Indian), works as an engineer in San Diego, is a member of SABR, and is a leading contributor to The Hardball Times.

He's a big Padres fan, as well as an enthusiastic supporter of UC Berkeley sports teams (and an equally enthusiastic detractor of Stanford sports teams).

Once while in New Orleans, Vinay wandered into the wrong alley, and had a mugger approach him. Thinking fast, Vinay argued to the mugger that he should just take the cash and let Vinay keep the rest of the wallet (driver's license, credit cards, etc.), because he'd just cancel the credit/ATM cards as soon as he got back to the hotel, and they wouldn't do the mugger any good. The mugger agreed and took the couple hundred in cash and let Vinay be. Vinay became known at his office as the guy who talked his way out of a mugging, despite the fact that he still did get mugged anyway.
