The Replacements
From Wiki Gonzalez
The Replacements were an influential 1980s guitar rock band from Minneapolis. They were fronted by Paul Westerberg and renowned for their drunken live shows. The Replacements' music was a mix of the most crude, fratboys rave-ups ("Gary's Got a Boner") and well-written, insightful ballads ("Here Comes a Regular"). It was that combination of being both incredibly stupid and incredibly intelligent that made the Replacements what they were. There's a great quote, by I don't know whom, that Westerberg's songs would make him cry in his beer - and then throw up in it...
A title from one of their minor songs was repurposed in 2004 for a 4-CD Rhino compilation called Left of the Dial: Dispatches from the '80s Underground (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:lmf5zfg4ehak). That alone seems to indicate their influence on indie rock music.
The song "Can't Hardly Wait," from their album Tim, is way better than the movie of the same name.
Larry Bowa (the BTF variant) is a big fan (http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/primer/discussion/28986/):
- They knew how to **** **** up. If more teams were like the Replacements circa 1983, baseball would be a hell of a lot more fun to watch.
