The Stanley Cup is hockey's equivalent to baseball's World Series.

Canadians watch the Cup, as do approximately 1% of Americans (measured by TV ratings).

In 2005, the Stanley Cup was not awarded for the first time since 1919 thanks to a labor dispute. The Record (Hackensack, N.J.) ran an editorial about the cancellation of the season, the complete text of which was, "Who cares?"

It should be noted that the period between Stanley Cup playoffs not being contested and that between World Series championships by the Boston Red Sox were identical.
