Retrosheet
From Wiki Gonzalez
Retrosheet is a baseball site whose mission is to computerize play-by-play accounts "of as many pre-1984 major league games as possible." The results are then distributed freely to all comers.
In addition to play-by-play, game logs, box scores, transaction lists, and special lists of notable and outstanding feats are compiled from the collected data.
Founded and managed by David Smith, Retrosheet is an invaluable resource for baseball researchers, and an ongoing project which is always looking for new contributors to fill in gaps in the data.
Retrosheet and Smith were given a chapter by Alan Schwarz in The Numbers Game, his book-length popular history of sabermetrics.
Primates often refer to Retrosheet data when trying to refresh their memories on the first game they ever attended, as well as confirm retired players' memories on specific games they played in. Their one-word review of the site: "Awesome."
