Texas Rangers

(Redirected from Rangers)

The Texas Rangers were the (expansion) Washington Senators until 1972, when they began playing in Arlington, Texas. They have been heard from very little since, making national news only when a pitcher named Nolan Ryan threw a couple of no-hitters for them shortly before undergoing bypass surgery, and then a few years later when Juan Gonzalez and Ivan Rodriguez collected 3 MVP awards between them, and then a few years later when a shortstop named Alex Rodriguez signed a contract with them for one-fifth of the money in Texas and immediately began to complain to his wife Cynthia that he was having to play with kids who were stinky and yucky.

Alternately, fans who came of age in the 1990s may remember the Rangers as the dominant team of the AL West until the advent of the Mariners in the late 90s and the resurgence of the A's and Angels shortly thereafter. But, they do play in Texas -- and furthermore, in the city with more malls than any other in America.$ So screw 'em.

Primate Jeff K. maintains The Blogpark in Arlington, a section of BTF set aside for Rangers news and discussion.

$ This is clearly a tongue-in-cheek impression from an outsider, as there is only one mall in Arlington, the Parks Mall (http://www.arlington.org/parks_mall.shtml).$$ Lest we forget, the Forum 303 Mall (http://www.deadmalls.com/malls/forum_303_mall.html) is dead, dead, dead.

$$ This is not true. Six Flags Mall is still open. (Jeff K.)
