RC
From Wiki Gonzalez
RC stands for Runs Created.
Runs Created were first proposed by Bill James in an early Baseball Abstract. Runs can be thought of as the coming together of 3 things: Table-setting (getting on base or OBP), driving in runs (moving runners along or SLG), and opportunities (AB). The formula is thus simply:
RC = (A*B)/C
where A represents getting runners on base, B represents moving runners along and C represents the number of opportunities. In the simple form:
A = H + BB B = TB = H + 2B + 2 * 3B + 3 * HR C = AB + BB
which makes:
RC = ((H+BB)*(TB))/(AB+BB)
With a little mathematical manipulation, this becomes:
RC = ((H+BB)*(TB))/(AB+BB) = ((H+BB)/(AB+BB)) * TB = ((H+BB)/(AB+BB)) * TB * (AB/AB) = ((H+BB)/(AB+BB)) * (TB/AB) * AB
RC = OBP * SLG * AB
Bill James later made a number (more than a dozen!) of other RC formulas that had more complex expressions for A, B, and C. The more common ones are:
Stolen Base RC:
A = H + BB - CS B = TB + (0.55 * SB) C = AB + BB
RC = (((H+BB-CS)*(TB+(0.55*SB)))/(AB+BB)
Option J RC:
A = H + BB - CS B = TB C = AB + BB J = WHIP - OUT (some sabermetricians use WHIP / OUT)
and Tech-1 RC:
A = H + BB + HBP - CS - GIDP B = TB + (0.26 * (BB - IBB + HBP)) + (0.52 * (SB + SF + SH)) C = AB + BB + HBP + SF + SH
RC = ((H+BB+HBP-CS-GIDP)*(TB+(0.26*(BB-IBB+HBP))+(0.52*(SB+SF+SH)))/(AB+BB+HBP+SF+SH)
Because RC is so popular as a counting statistic, a number of people also convert it to a rate statistic such as RC/27, which is just RC / outs.
RC is also a refreshing cola drink produced by DPSU. It's a crime more people don't drink it.
