Baseball Primer
(Redirected from Primer)
Baseball Primer (also known as BaseballPrimer.com) is what BBTF was before BBTF became BBTF.
The "Primer" name was chosen by the founders Sean Forman and Jim Furtado for two reasons:
- Pave the way for a season preview: a primer for the season ahead.
- Produce a series of introductory pieces on a variety of baseball topics.
However, the site quickly became a general baseball discussion outlet and blog site, so the name was never fully utilized as first intended. (GGT is correct about the details of this.)
What's now known on BBTF as the Baseball Newsstand had been known as Clutch Hits on Primer, and then (as now) it was the most active section of the site. Only editors with the keys could submit a discussion thread, and these threads were called Clutch Hits.
According to Jon Daly, a Deadball Primer existed on the site at some point. A Pitcher Abuse Primer also was on the site for quite a while.
At least some Primates pronounce "Primer" with a short "i," making it less of an engine primer or undercoat of paint and more of a children's literacy aid. Ah, the polysemousness of the written word.
