Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies are a National League team of ancient vintage which despite thrilling pennant runs in 1950, 1980, 1983 and 1993 are associated in all their fans' minds with bitter, corrosive, socially divisive, pathetic, and humanistically repugnant failure, unredeemed by the often-sweet nostalgic associations enjoyed by the Red Sox or Cubs.

The Phillies have lost more games than any other franchise in major league sports. Over 2/3 of these losses would have been wins if Scott Rolen had not struck out with the bases loaded.

They were managed and epitomized for a time by Larry Bowa, and GM'd for an even longer-seeming time by Ed Wade.
