New Jersey

New Jersey is a state of mind, much like New York except that Billy Joel never sang about it.

Just today, I realized that if I ran the Spanish language, "New Jersey" would be pronounced "Nuevo Heresy."

[edit] New Jersey sports

New Jersey has three affiliated minor league teams, five independent professional teams, the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University, the Meadowlands Sports Complex (hosting 4 NYC-area major sports teams), a lot of beachfront, and a few Sopranos. (A few altos, tenors, and basses, too.)

Four Hall of Fame outfielders were born in New Jersey: Larry Doby (the American League's first African-American player), Goose Goslin, Billy Hamilton, and Joe Medwick. One well-known non-Hall of Fame pitcher was born in New Jersey: Al Leiter.

Also, that legendary 100 MPH burner Frank MacCormack (who once gave the wee-wee trembling Repoz...a crackling 0 fer 4-four strikeout day at Kane Stadium in stenchy Secaucus!)...and MacCormack's 80 year-old dad is now running for mayor of Secaucus, NJ!

[edit] New Jersey culture

New Jersey is home to the New Jersey Turnpike, which allows fans to get to a day game in New York and a night game in Philadelphia, most of the time. New Jersey has the highest population density of any of the 50 states.

New Jersey is also home to the essential Weird NJ Magazine, the seminal punk haven Maxwell's, the blandsvilliness of The Winston Towers now standing where the Palisades Amusement Park once thrived.

[edit] Famous New Jerseyites

Famous New Jerseyites include Bruce Springsteen and Repoz. (It has been said that most of the Boss's songs are directly or indirectly about New Jersey...even though Repoz dislikes being referred to as "The Boss.") Depending on his mood and with whom he is talking, Bernal Diaz will occasionally admit he grew up in the Garden State.
