Lucy

Lucy Van Pelt, self-proclaimed fussbudget, has an opinion on everything and isn't shy about sharing it. She's a self-proclaimed psychiatrist, although her most prominent patient, Charlie Brown, doesn't really believe she does much good. (Lucy only charges five cents per consultation, proving you get what you pay for.) She's convinced that Schroeder is her boyfriend, despite his denials, and is content to hang around while he practices, although she tends to distract him with her chatter. She has two younger brothers, Linus and Rerun.

As a ballplayer, Lucy's not much to talk about. Nominally a right fielder, she has also played left and even center field despite having a UZR of approximately -5,732. (League conversion factors are uncertain.) She's also prone to calling timeouts for the sole purpose of talking to Schroeder, making her unpopular with her teammates. Her hitting isn't quite as poor as her fielding, but it's nothing special. (Lucy even smacked a home run once, when Schroeder promised he'd kiss her at home plate if she hit a dinger.) She also once quit the team because she felt it was degrading to a "New Feminist."

Rumour has it that when she got older, she moved to Washington Heights in New York City and supported herself as a baby sitter for the Ramirez family. She tutored young Manny on the nuances of outfield play.

In college, penguinmobile knew someone with the last name of Van Pelt, who was supposedly the daughter of the real Lucy Van Pelt, on whom Charles Schultz modelled the character. A lot of the facts match up and he's willing to believe it, although he has often wondered about the matrilineal continuation of the Van Pelt name implied in the story. Good grief!
