Linus Van Pelt is the best friend and general advisor of Charlie Brown. He's the most erudite of the Peanuts gang, often quoting Scripture, but he tends to have a more laid-back personality. He is fervent in his belief in the Great Pumpkin, a belief which no one else shares. He always carries around a security blanket, except when Snoopy tries to steal it. Lucy is his older sister, and Rerun is his younger brother. Sally has an unrequited crush on him.

As a baseball player, he has a good fielding reputation, teaming with Snoopy to form a potent double-play combo. He has done some pitching and was successful, but returned to second base when Charlie Brown recovered from an injury. His hitting is middle-of-the-road, neither best nor worst on the team.

An urban legend has it that Linus' blanket had a big brother that maimed Vince Coleman.

Another urban legend suggests that Linus' blanket had a big brother who indeed was Vince Coleman.

Voxter was named for Linus by two very strange people claiming to be his parents.
