Dot race
From Wiki Gonzalez
A dot race is an in-game alleged entertainment option for fans at a baseball game. Three dots of varying colors are put to the left of the stadium scoreboard, and set to march to the right at randomly varying speeds to raucous music. Fans are encouraged to cheer for their favorite colored dot.
The formula has been improved by the Mariners, who turned the dot race into a 3D graphics hydroplane race on the Safeco Field video board. Three hydroplane boats of varying colors race around a watery circuit festooned with whales, dolphins, and octopi; fans cheer for their favorite colored boat to cross the finish line first.
The White Sox have at least two versions of the dot race. In one, different colored frogs leap toward home plate. In another, three different pizzas (cheese, sausage, and pepperoni) fly around the city. While the race may make one hungry, it is unknown if it has any entertainment value, aside from the obvious wagering that takes place.
The Cincinnati Reds had a "Mr. Reds Race" dating back to the very first days at Riverfront. In it, three disembodied Mr. Red heads would slowly move towards a finish line. Awesomeness ensued.
Upon the move to The Great American Ballpark, the Mr. Reds Race has been updated for the computer age, and now sucks. Mr. Red, Mr. Redlegs, and Rosie Red all run for the finish line. The hijinks of Gapper or sudden Skyline Chili cravings all but determine each race's winner.
The Yankees have for years been running "The Great NYC Subway Race" which features the three subway lines (formerly the C, D and 4 lines; currently the B, C, and 4 lines) that lead to Yankee Stadium racing toward the park.
Everyone knows the D line is totally sweet.
At Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies run a similar subway race, sponsored by SEPTA, between several of Philadelphia's rapid transit lines. Only one of the three lines in the race, however, actually stops near the ballpark, rendering the race even more nonsensical than most.
