David Wright
From Wiki Gonzalez
David Wright (born 1982) is the homegrown heart of the new Mets, and possibly the best young third baseman in baseball.
Profile
Wright was brought to the attention of Baseball Think Factory by Mets fans in early 2004, as the early hopes for a Mets revival were crushed. These Primates, disgusted by the team's ineptitude and looking for something to root for, began campaigning in multiple Mets-related threads for Wright to come up from AAA and get a shot with the big club, assuring non-Met fan Primates that he was the Real Deal.
Wright was recalled in July. He cracked 14 home runs and 40 RBIs in less than half a season, and fielded his position well. More importantly, he showed a positive, pleasant side to the public, a refreshing change from the offputting personas of Art Howe, Senator Al, and John Franco. He has been hailed as "The Whrist," though both his messiah-ness and position as the best young third-sacker in the game have been questioned (some think Indians prospect Andy Marte will prove to be better).
Wright's success partly offset the disastrous performance of the Mets organization as exemplified by the Kazmir Trade.
In 2006, Wright was elected to his first All-Star Game as a result of his own great performance and the 2006 Mets hot start.
Sam M is probably his biggest backer among the Mets fan contingent on BBTF, but almost everyone is possessive of Wright and ecstatically proud of his accomplishments to date. A November 2005 thread initiated by a John Sickels career projection has some good discussion on his strengths and weaknesses, after a full season's worth of ABs in 2005.
