Daves

From Wiki Gonzalez

These are the Daves I know, I know/These are the Daves I know/Some of them are Davids/But most of them are Daves/They all have their own hands/But they come from different moms

In its heyday, rec.sport.baseball was famous for its quantity of Daves, particularly of the analytical variety. Besides Nieporent, frequent posters included David M. Tate @ pitt.edu, David Pease, David Geiser the Cubs fan, David Grabiner of Strike FAQ (http://remarque.org/~grabiner/laborfaq.html) fame, David H. Thornley the Twins fan @ umn.edu, Dave Bonar @ lsu.edu, Dave Kirsch the Jays fan, Dave Eisen (aka dkeisen), and David Nichols (husband of Sherri Nichols).

Many years ago, Jefferson was really bored at a Dungeons & Dragons convention and, with a friend, walked around the convention counting Daves. (He found 17 1/2--the half was a fellow whose middle name was Dave.)

David/Dave was a popular name for boys in the 60's, hence the surfeit of them today. One primate, who asked to be quoted only as "Dave" claims that 16 of 24 men on his freshman dorm hallway were named David/Dave.
