DIPS

Defense Independent Pitching Statstics, developed by Vörös McCracken, is a statistic that operates under the revolutionary and controversial theoreom that a pitchers value comes from his strikeouts, walks, and home runs allowed (because these are the only events over which the pitcher has total control).

Some people would argue that the theory is misnamed as DIPS really controls for luck as well as defense. A number of people think DIPS is the most important sabermetric research of the last few years.
