Cybernanny

From Wiki Gonzalez

The Cybernanny is a feature implemented by BTF editors which filters out most offensive words, and also many non-offensive words, such as the name of former MLB player Pussy Tebeau (http://www.baseball-reference.com/t/tebeapu01.shtml). Although the idea of the Cybernanny has long been unpopular with the vast majority of BTF users, the site owners have not wavered in their determination to keep it around. Occasionally the Cybernanny is cause for some genuinely humorous posts, which is proof that even the stupidest features of a site are good for something.

Not only has the Cybernanny failed to prevent profanity from being used on the site; it has actually served to increase the amount of profanity, since finding ways to get around the Cybernanny has become something of an amusing game. There are even more holes in the Cybernanny than there are in Neifi's swing.

The cybernanny always replaces the offending word with four pound signs ("####"), regardless of the number of letters in the original swear word. This makes it difficult to tell how offended to get when somebody calls you a bad name. If I say "Dan Werr, you ####," he has no way of knowing whether I just called him an ass, or a motherfucker. (Note: This is no longer true. The Nanny now replaces the offending word with the exact same number of characters.)
