Crypto-fascist

Crypto-fascist is an epithet introduced to BTF by Retardo and mostly applied to his archnemesis, David Nieporent. Other Primates occasionally use the term as a joke.

The term refers to when novelist Gore Vidal called William F. Buckley a "crypto-Nazi" at the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago, later saying he intended to call him a "crypto-fascist", but couldn't think of the word. Buckley was not amused.

It's a simple compound word. A crypto is someone who covertly supports a doctrine, etc.

As I introduced the term to the site, I ought to be the one to explain why. It has nothing to do with Gore Vidal or WFB and everything to do with needing a word that accurately describes the politics of the most horrible human being on the internets, David Nieporent.

It will not do to simply call Nieporent a fascist, as the term has become too loaded with connotations of jackbooted Nazis, but his fascist bona-fides, nonetheless, must be addressed. Thus "crypto-fascist," meaning that he is one whose fascism is at a quasi- or half-hidden level, but will reach full-bloom, I would say inevitably, under certain conditions. Nieporent, as a social darwinist, would help set up -- were his ideology implemented in society -- the necessary pre-conditions for a fascist regime.

Also, Nieporent deprecates democracy at every opportunity and has expressed preference for military juntas; he has stated that democratically-elected leaders "deserved" to be victims of coups d'etat. As a card-carying Propertarian, he's on record unfavorably comparing the American Constitution to the Chinese one; his concerns of "freedom" and "liberty" begin and end with the right to property, and should that "right" be infringed, Nieporent absolutely welcomes a fascist response. In short, Nieporent finds more to admire in the governments China and Singapore than in those of the Netherlands and Sweden. No government is otherwise too fascist for him so long as it protects property, hence his preference of Pinochet to Allende. Nieporent, politically and personally, is vile to the core.
