Clutch hitting probably exists as a repeatable skill. It's just that the effect is small - only a few runs per year - and it's thus extremely hard to detect.

Alan Jordan (http://www.tangotiger.net/Alan/ajordan.pdf) then refuted TangoTiger's findings as being not statistically significant, using TangoTiger's own data. The best support for clutch hitting was presented by Andy Dolphin (http://www.dolphinsim.com/ratings/notes/clutch.html).

Clutch hitting is perhaps best defined as whatever Derek Jeter does.
