The Chicago White Sox are an original American League ballclub, and the 2005 champions of Major League Baseball. Their current manager is Ozzie Guillen, and their general manager is Kenny Williams.

Prior to winning the World Series in 2005, the Sox had last won the World Series in 1917, and had gone to the World Series once since 1920. And lost in 1959. That's fan-tastic. Just super.

Among the "cursed" ballclubs, the Sox were notable for actually deserving it, as their curse was not brought on by selling off an outfielder or by shenanigans involving goats or cats, but by their trying to lose the 1919 World Series at the hands of Joe Jackson and company.

In short, they are a team that suffered, and had suffering fans, but a bit of noblesse. According to the OED, "noblesse" means "the quality of being noble in birth or rank, or in character or mind." Or nobility. Nobility's good too.

The Sox are also known as the "Bitch Sox" by those with extremely flawed sense of insult/satire/parody (Batgirl, notably). "White Sux" is much wittier. Not that it's witty. Just wittier.

The Magglio chant at Comisk The Cell was reputedly invented by the father of occasional Primer contributor and White Sox fan Anthony Giacalone.

Some White Sox fans are convinced there is a conspiracy in the Chicago and national media to ignore and denigrate the White Sox. For evidence of this, read just about any post at WhiteSoxInteractive.com.

White Sox Game Chatters have recently gained popularity on Baseball Think Factory. Regular participants generally detest their home TV broadcasting crew of Hawk Harrelson and Darrin Jackson, and so SG in ATL is often kind enough to issue a disclaimer.
