Billy Beane

Whether "a former worker with mediocre talent" or "the patron saint of sabermetrics," Billy Beane is the handsomest general manager in baseball, as well as the coolest. He has worked for the Oakland Athletics since his retirement as a player in 1989, and was named their general manager in 1998.

No, he hasn't written a book, despite what Joe Morgan may or may not have said. In fact, it was Michael Lewis who wrote the book (Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game) in which Beane and his philosophies are featured.

Many heated debates over whether Beane is a "genius" have flared over the years, pitting Primate against Primate. Of course, the two sides are usually talking past each other as Beane is rarely actually called a "genius" by anyone on BTF.

(Though Billy Bean DID write a book about being gay in the world of baseball. Link)

Some contend that Red Sox GM Theo Epstein is truly the handsomest general manager in baseball. Reports of such activity are ferreted out by Beane's squad of sabermetric sycophants who then mercilessly beat the offender about the head and shoulders until the statement is retracted.
