August 2006 crackdown
From Wiki Gonzalez
Much of this article is adapted from a post in the August 15, 2006 Primer Lounge (http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/forums/viewthread/363/P50/) by Backlasher.
On August 14, 2006, there were two long active threads on BTF - a Mike Lupica article on Mariano Rivera (http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/newsstand/discussion/42818), which had drifted into a discussion of the Middle East and World War II, and a Sports Illustrated article on intentional walks (http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/newsstand/discussion/si_you_make_the_call) which had remained mostly on topic.
In short succession of one another, the Little League IBB thread and the Lupica thread were both closed. In both threads, Jim posted before closing the thread. In the former, he stated that further conversation should be taken to the Primer Soapbox. In the latter he stated the thread was off topic. Meanwhile, the ARod thread also had a few posts regarding Middle East politics. A few posters finished their thoughts in that thread. There was also a seperate discussion of Star Wars. That thread was deleted in its entirety. Jeff K. made another Star Wars post in another thread, and is near as we can tell was banned for lacking perspective within a half hour.
Chris P predicted he would get banned immediately after Jeff K.’s Star Wars post, and posted "It's a trap" after Jeff K's Star Wars post in the Healy Thread. P's handle at the time was "Chris P thinks Nelly is messing up the site", a reference to Backlasher's June suspension for calling Furtado "Nelly". SJ then posted Jeff K.’s IM that said he was banned, and made a comment similar to your antecedent comment. JC made a joke about a pravda write up and a joke about us visualizing Jim as he was going about the act of banning and deleting. Jim made a post about posters and perspective. Bernal responded to JC’s post indicating he pictured Jim dressed like Al from home improvement. Bernal, JC, and crispy were all banned in rapid succession of each other. The stated reason was a lack of persepective, and the ban apparently lasts until the posters calm down. Bernal, JC and crispy regained full posting privileges by the next day. As of August 16 Jeff K. remains unable to access the Lounge, probably due to an administrative error.
